Release of Liability, Assumption of Risk & Medical Authorization

1. Nature of activities

I am voluntarily enrolling in a hands-on course offered by Caribbean Homestead Academy ("the Academy"). Activities may include outdoor work in hot and humid conditions, use of hand and power tools, open flame and hot surfaces, electrical systems and batteries, digging and lifting, handling soil, compost and organic waste, preparing and eating food, walking on uneven or wet terrain, and exposure to insects, plants and animals.

2. Assumption of risk

I understand these activities carry inherent risks, including but not limited to cuts, burns, electric shock, falls, sprains, heat illness, allergic reactions, insect stings, infections, and in rare cases serious injury or death. I knowingly and voluntarily assume these risks, both known and unknown.

3. Health and fitness

I confirm the health information I provided in my registration is accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge. I am responsible for deciding whether I am fit to take part, for bringing any medication I need, and for telling an instructor if I feel unwell or unable to continue any activity.

4. Rules and safety instructions

I agree to follow all instructions from Academy staff, wear required protective equipment, and stop any activity when asked. The Academy may remove me from a course without refund if my conduct endangers me or others.

5. Release

To the fullest extent permitted by the laws of Puerto Rico, I release and agree not to bring claims against the Academy, its directors, instructors, volunteers, and the owners of the property where the course is held, for injury, illness, loss or damage arising from my participation, except where caused by their gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

6. Medical treatment

I authorize Academy staff to arrange first aid and emergency medical care for me if I am unable to consent, and I accept responsibility for any resulting costs.

7. Personal property

The Academy is not responsible for loss of or damage to personal belongings, vehicles or tools I bring.

8. Photos (optional)

If I opt in below, the Academy may use photos or video taken during the course, in which I may appear, for educational and promotional purposes without payment.

9. Minors

If the participant is under 18, the parent or legal guardian signing below agrees to these terms on the participant's behalf and on their own, and confirms that the participant will be accompanied or supervised as the Academy requires.

10. Electronic signature and governing law

I agree that typing my full name and checking the acceptance box is my electronic signature and has the same effect as a handwritten signature. This agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. If any part is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
